Seniors will be required to take the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS) with their advising class on Wednesday November 5, and Thursday November 6 from 8 AM to 12 PM. CMAS is an assessment that will test their knowledge of science and social studies skills. The CMAS test will be replacing the TCAP test previously taken by Colorado students everywhere. The test will not affect this year’s students, because this year is the trial test. However, according to Student Services Director Bridget Muse, the “state law requires that our school board adopt new graduation guidelines beginning with the class of 2021.” Those students are currently in sixth grade. Muse said that the test will ask students to demonstrate competency in the core subjects–Science, Social studies, Math, and English language arts. Muse said, “The student would demonstrate competency through a ‘passing’ score on a state assessment.” When this year’s sixth graders are seniors, they will have to take and pass the assessment to be able to graduate. Even though this year’s seniors do not have to pass the test to do well, seniors are encouraged to do try their best in order to give the most accurate results. A link to practice for the test is available on the school website.
