Is there a worse feeling that the awkward moment when you’ve called for someone’s attention and you’ve already shouted the “Hey,” but you can’t remember their name for the life of you? You finish your exclamation lamely with a “you?” in place of the name that is still escaping you. Most people can recount a time when a situation like this has happened to them, and most will say it’s a very unpleasant feeling to not remember someone’s name. But there’s very little need to worry about that this year— at least when it comes to teachers. This year you don’t have to remember the name of your new teacher because there is only one new name to worry about. What a relief to not have to stress about meeting that new enforcer of rules, that lecturer of dates, that professor of truths.
This year for the first time in 10 years, you don’t have to spend the hours before your class wondering, “will he allow joking in class,” “is she the type that has a song for everything?” No need for that kind of fretting this year. No sir. This year, students at EHS have the luxury of returning to the same old familiar faces of the teachers they’ve seen 140 days out of every year of their high school career.
The only exception to this worry-free start of the year is Brenda Martin, the new Odyssey supervisor. Odyssey is a computer-based education program that allows kids to take their classes online to earn credits. Martin took on the tutor position for the kids in this program over the summer.
