Eaton High School softball is preparing to play in the 2014 CHSAA State Softball Championship on October 17 2014. Although the regular season is nearly over, for the softball team, the ultimate goal has just arrived. Brynn Millett (17) said that “it’s exciting; We definitely have a shot at Saturday.” The tournament lasts for two days, and October 17 is the first round of the championship. “The final goal for every season is to get as far into the state championship as possible, so qualifying for it is step one, and the next step is to get into the final four which has kind of been the ultimate goal all along,” said Coach Chad Shaw.
Several events highlighted this year’s softball season. Millet said that the biggest highlight of the season in her eyes was “beating Valley at home by one run” at the game on September 30. In Coach Shaw’s eyes, “just seeing the girls get better at softball and becoming one of the better, if not the best, hitting team in the state,”Shaw said this improvement is “nice to see because we spent a lot of time on hitting in practice.”
As for the next season, Coach Shaw said “we have a lot of girls who are graduating [this year], so we’ll have a lot of new players playing next year, so obviously [the goal is] qualifying for the state tournament and getting as far as we can in next year’s state tournament is the ultimate goal for next year.” Millett said that the team’s goal for next season would be “filling in the shoes of our seniors that are leaving and winning state.” Both coach and team have high hopes for the remainder of the 2014 softball season as well as next year’s 2015 season.
