Eaton High School’s football team was challenged on Friday night, Sept. 12 against the La Junta Tigers (1-3, 0-0) where they were able to pull off a 23-20 victory in their second home game of the season. The Reds were able to get a quick lead on the Tigers going into halftime ahead 10-0. After halftime La Junta scored their first touchdown of the game, going into the fourth quarter with a score of 16-7. The fourth quarter marked the beginning of La Junta’s comeback when they scored 13-points but weren’t able to pull off a victory over the Reds, with a final score of 23-20. After the win against La Junta, Eaton is now currently 3-0 overall, and hasn’t competed in a league game yet this season.
The Reds have gone undefeated thus far, under new Head Coach, Zac Lemon, and are quickly climbing through the rankings after pre-season polls predicted the reds to be unranked. The football team is currently ranked number eight in the state, right behind the Faith Christian Eagles (2-1,1-0) and the Platte Valley Broncos (2-2,0-0).
The Red’s schedule ahead consists of three top-10 teams and all five Patriot League opponents consecutively for their final five games. Their next game will be away against the Manitou Springs Mustangs (1-2, 0-0) on Friday, Sept. 19.
