Eaton High School’s Student Council has decided to hold a spirit week before spring break. In addition to that, they hosted an assembly on Monday, Mar. 19, a hat day the Friday before the break, and a kickball tournament after spring break. It’s a fun way for the students to spend their last week before spring break enjoying their time among staff and students in the building.
Addy Manning, a sophomore, also a member of the EHS Student Council, said, “We organized these events for students who want to join the Student Council, as well as for those who believe that spirit weeks are a fun way to bring us together.” The goal that they’d like to reach is to foster a sense of community and bring the school together.
Students and staff eagerly anticipate Mar. 21 as it approaches. To make the week more enjoyable, everyone can participate in fun themes throughout the week. These themes include: wearing green, springing forward or backward, “Dressing Day” where each grade level dresses as a different salad dressing, pajama day, and red and white day.
Monday, Mar. 17 was the kick-off for the first day of the spirit week. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day students and staff would dress in green. Advisors would take into account how many of their students were participating and add it to a form.
Over the next few days, several themed dress-up events took place. On Tuesday, students dressed as teachers while teachers dressed as high school students. Wednesday was designated as “Dressing Day,” where each grade level wore a different style of attire. Thursday was “PJ Day,” allowing participants to wear their pajamas to school. Finally, on Friday, everyone celebrated “Red & White Day,” showcasing school spirit by wearing the school’s colors.
On Monday, Mar. 17, the Eaton Student Council held a school-wide assembly during the advising period. Students were able to participate in fun games and activities, which contributed points to their grades’. Some of the games included table surfing, the last person standing balloon pop, and musical chairs.
It was a great way for students to interact with one another and engage in activities that were competitive and fun. The students and staff enjoyed the games that were put on, and the atmosphere as the games kept the audience on the edge of their seats.
As part of the fundraising, Stuco is holding a kickball tournament when students return from break. Students can form teams with a minimum of six players and pay a small $10 to enter the competition. It is a great opportunity to get the students involved and raise money for later use.
During Spirit Week, the key club decided to introduce a Hat Day. Both students and staff were encouraged to wear hats, provided they paid a $1 fee. The money collected will be used to support future events. This initiative allows participants to express themselves while also helping to raise funds for upcoming activities.
Manning said, “We plan to organize more events like these.” However, a major challenge with the ambitious ideas proposed by student councils’ is encouraging participation. They have received positive feedback regarding the concept of a kickball tournament, which is beneficial for uniting the community.
