Eaton High School fosters a culture of high expectations in athletics, equipping students to play college sports. Coaches teach players the importance of hard work and dedication, ensuring that players are prepared to meet the challenges ahead when they play at a higher level. Amelia Bowden (25), a student at Eaton High School, has recently committed to the University of Dubuque in Iowa. She made her official decision on Jan. 14, marking a significant milestone in her athletic career and setting the stage for her future in college softball.
When making her decision to commit, Bowden was particularly impressed by the welcoming atmosphere and the benefits offered by the university, such as free health insurance. Bowden said, “I really like the environment, the coaching staff and the opportunities that it presented.” This supportive environment played a crucial role in her decision-making process, highlighting the importance of a positive atmosphere for student-athletes.
The Eaton High School softball coach, Chad Shaw, praised her hard work and commitment to the sport. He said, “Amelia is a hard worker. She puts in the work at practice and outside of it to improve every single day. Her work ethic will definitely rub off on her teammates and show that she is a player who’s committed.” Shaw also praised her skills as an excellent outfielder, noting her ability to read the ball well, which will be crucial for the team’s success. He said, “This is a great opportunity to use softball as a vehicle to get an education and receive a level of support and assistance from the university, and still be able to participate in a sport that she clearly loves to play.”
As she reflects on her last season as a high school softball player, knowing she will play at the next level gives her a new perspective and motivation to improve her skills. Bowden said, “I was definitely not as sad and it just pushed me to focus on where I struggle.” This drive to improve and excel demonstrates her commitment to personal growth and her passion for softball.
Bowden’s advice to others who are aspiring to play at a college level is “Stay true to what you want and not what others want for you.” This message emphasizes the importance of following one’s path and making decisions based on their personal goals and aspirations.
Bowden’s decision to commit to the University of Dubuque is not only a reflection of her talent and determination but is also inspiring for other young athletes that are wanting to play at a higher level. Her journey serves as a reminder that with dedication and the right support, achieving one’s dreams is possible.
