Another plane crash in February 2025 is sending Americans into a state of uneasiness, as the assumption feels that the skies are becoming more dangerous. There have been 14 fatal airline crashes in 2025 alone, concerning passengers who have upcoming flights.
On Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, a Delta flight landing in Toronto from Minneapolis flipped over on the tarmac, after attempting to land in unfit flying conditions. There were no casualties, but twenty-one of the eighty passengers were hospitalized and expected to survive their injuries.
According to CNN News,“ The plane flipped while landing and a fire broke out as passengers, who were buckled to their seats, were left hanging upside down.” Firefighters responded instantly to the flames while passengers unbuckled themselves and made their way to the exit.
Klara Roberts, a student at Eaton High School-, who recently flew to Orlando, exclaimed, “I mean, it’s just an airplane, you have to trust the pilot.” Regarding rising questions about recent plane crashes, Roberts (28) said, “I am nervous just that we will always crash but you have to have a good mindset…and think about vacation.”
“All these pilots train for these conditions,” the Delta Airlines CEO said to CBS News in an exclusive interview. “They fly under all kinds of conditions at all kinds of airports, at which we rate,” Ed Bastian told CBS. The cause of this accident remains under investigation by the Canadian Transportation Safety Board.
They are offering $30,000 to all passengers on flight 4819, which is almost 2.3 million dollars that Delta will have to pay out. A Delta spokesperson told NBC News the proposal, “Has no strings attached, and it does not affect rights.” Theorists say that the company is avoiding being sued for this action, but Sherin Shibu refutes this by saying, “The passengers can still sue Delta, even when they take the $30,000.”
Religion Hawes, another student at Eaton High School who recently flew home from Mexico, said, “We had a three-hour delay because of plane issues, and even with the recent crashes I wish they would’ve just sent us off.” Hawes (26) also said, “I was willing to take my chances. Even with everything recent, I don’t think planes are scary.” She finished her interview by saying, “Everything in life has a risk and I think you just have to accept that and move on.”
One passenger caught the entire event on video and uploaded it to TikTok. It went viral and was even shared on the news, it explicitly shows everything that happened in the moment Delta 4819 went down. Several other videos were later uploaded, like one of a man on the tarmac watching, and passengers in the airport awaiting their flights.
Many planes have gone down in the past, but with new media, these events have had a detrimental impact on passengers. However in this case everyone made it out alive, in others no one was able to walk out of the plane. “You are more likely to crash in your car than an airplane” might seem a little different now for survivors of a plane crash.
