Girls basketball takes a step forward in Patriot League Tournament

Girls basketball faces off Wiggins for their first game in the tournament

The girls basketball team has been on a roll the past few weeks, winning the past six out of seven games. They went into their game against Wiggins ready to play. They were able to finish the game ahead, 35-26. They ended the game with seven assists and 23 rebounds, which helped them secure their win.

Delaney Reuter, a sophomore at Eaton High School, said, “I think the game went well. We gave good effort and had good energy. It was a low scoring game but very fast-paced. We did really well on defense; our best players guarded their high scorer and only allowed her to score four points when she usually averages 16.” Reuter was one of Eaton’s top scorers with 11 points against Wiggins. Another huge contributor was Courtney Steinkamp with 14 points and seven rebounds. This win for the girls bumped their record up to 15-6.

The Patriot League Tournament ends on Feb. 29, 2025. The Eaton Girls Basketball team will face the Resurrection Christian team on Feb. 26, 2025. Depending on who wins the game, it will determine who plays who on the final day of the tournament. As the girl’s team prepares on and off the court for their game, they are always one step ahead of their next opponent. Reuter said, “We are working on moving the ball and our defense for when we face Rez.”

When the games get intense and competitive, the people that cheer on their team make the biggest difference. Hayden Annand, a junior at Eaton High School, said, “Our next game is against Rez, and I am excited to cheer on the team and support them, and get them hyped up.”

No matter if a person is the team’s key player or someone suiting up from junior varsity, being the biggest cheerleader for your teammates makes a huge difference in the game.

The Eaton Girls Basketball team has proven their skill, especially with their victory over Wiggins. With the team’s focused mindset heading into the final days of the tournament, they are ready for the challenges they are about to face. As they move forward in their journey, their hard work and resilience will pay off.

Chloe Crider is a junior at Eaton High School. She became a part of the Eaton Red Ink staff her junior year. Chloe is a member of Eaton High School’s volleyball program, tennis, DECA, FBLA, and Student Council. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and playing volleyball. She travels all over the United States to play in volleyball tournaments with her club team. Chloe is very passionate about traveling around and meeting different people and getting a chance to see the world from different perspectives. Eamon Shaw is a senior at Eaton High School this year. This is his third year writing for Eaton Red Ink. While being an editor-in-chief for Eaton Red Ink, Eamon enjoys being around people and enjoys journalism as well. Eamon will be stepping into the editor-in-chief position after sharing the role with graduate, Maddie Fisher last year. Eamon also plays soccer at Northridge High School. Eamon can always be found at a local sports team game and enjoys watching and taking pictures of the sports he loves. Outside of the school setting, Eamon enjoys the outdoors and being around his friends. Eamon is very excited to help lead the Eaton Red Ink team to new heights in the 24/25 school year.
