Ending the game early, in four innings, the Lady Reds softball team defeated Greeley Central 17-0 on Aug. 28. Ending the first inning ,the Reds allowed no runs to score, while the team scored 12 runs. The Reds have five seniors leading the team this year: Emily Willier, Jayla Jarnagin, Layne Hager, Kayla Frink and Jenna Frink. Willier, said, “We hold ourselves to higher standards. This year we want to win.”
The Reds had 13 RBIs against Greeley Central. The Lady Reds have a team batting average of .632 for the season so far. Jayla Jarnagin has high hopes for this season as well. She said, “Communication on the field will lead to a successful season, and senior leadership will not only contribute to this year’s success, but make an impact for years to come.”
The Reds took the lead in the game early and used it as an opportunity to get the younger players on the team more field experience. They also used the lead in the game to try new strategies to execute in the future. One of the strategies they executed was pulling the right fielder into a rover position behind second base, leaving the center fielder and the left fielder to cover the rest of the outfield. Both Jarnagin and Willier agree that the new strategy of moving the rover, will be beneficial for the rest of the season because of it is not often used in high school softball. The Reds next game will be home against the Valley Vikings on Saturday 13.
