For the last few years, Broncos fans have been let down time and time again. They have watched the team continually struggle for nine years and not be able to compete, and it looked to be the same with this season as well. They started off with an 0-2 start that discouraged fans, but this soon ended with the Broncos going on a three game win streak.
Before the season head coach Sean Payton traded Jerry Jeudy, who was one of their top two wide receivers the previous year. He did this to receive a fifth and sixth-round pick for the next year. The year prior, the Broncos drafted Bo Nix, a 24 year- old quarterback out of the University of Oregon.
With Nix as a rookie quarterback, his first two starts did not go great. The first game he threw for 138 yards and had two interceptions, and the second he threw for 246 yards with two interceptions. The next 10 games Nix threw for 2,164 yards and only had two interceptions.
This streak the Broncos went on gave many fans hope. Mori Adams, a junior at Eaton High School, said, “It’s good to see the Broncos playing good and it reminds me of when I would watch their games when I was younger.”
The last game the Broncos played was against the Indianapolis Colts on Dec. 15. This was a very important game because it would determine if they would make the playoffs or not. Coming off of a bye week, the Broncos did not start off very strong. By the end of the half the Broncos were trailing 13-7 and there were no big plays. The second half was a different story with the Broncos securing a field goal and scoring three touchdowns.
Within those three touchdowns, one of them was a pick six by the outside linebacker Nik Bonitto. The defense did not let the Colts score any more points during the second half. Trevan Felix, a sophomore at EHS said, “Even though I’m a Seahawks fan until the day I die, the game against the Colts was a great game for the defense and I think that is going to keep them in the running for the playoffs the next few weeks.”
The Broncos defense has been the best it has been in the last few years. They are allowing 18 points on average while scoring an average of 24.
The combo of a good defense and young players will help the Broncos later down the line. Although Broncos fans might not see them wearing Super Bowl Rings this season, the thought might be closer than people imagined.
