Eaton High School’s girls’ swim season is fast approaching, and the team has high hopes and determination to start this winter sports season off strong. With seniors Railey McGarry, Karley Riggs, Sophie Morgan, Dharma Perkins, Mackinze Hays, and Maddux Chapman finishing off their last year on the team, they are more motivated than ever to lead the team to success and make lasting memories.
The swimmers are putting in a lot of effort during preseason training to ensure they’re ready for their first meet on Tuesday, Dec. 3 against multiple opponents including Valley and Wellington. Preseason training consists of focusing on refining their techniques and refreshing on dives. Karley Riggs (25) said, “It’s just a simple hour of practice: half an hour spent doing dry land workouts and the other half swimming, just doing small sets.”
The team is feeling confident about their chances this year thanks to the strong swimmers and new talent of divers joining them. They believe that this combination will be beneficial for the team as a whole. New swimmers are advised that being on the team might involve a lot of hard work, but with effort, great things can be achieved. Riggs (25) said, “Have fun, take it serious, but not too serious. Practice hard, swim hard, and make the best memories.”
Last season, the swim team had an incredible run. They finished off their season at the 3A State Swim and Dive Championships where five of the girls qualified for state.
Many of the swimmers have set personal goals, such as perfecting specific dives, beating personal bests, and qualifying for state competitions, and they’re determined to achieve them. Beyond the competition, the team is also looking forward to bonding and creating memorable moments together. They know that the hard work and dedication they put in now will pay off, both in their performances and in the overall success of the team.
