November has arrived, and it’s getting closer to the holiday that everyone knows and loves:, Christmas. From the outdoor Christmas lights, baking, decorations, and beloved Christmas movies, this time of year is special to many. These special traditions make the holiday more lovable and give Christmas a special meaning. However, the debate about when the right time to bring out the favorite aspects of this holiday is varied. Many people believe the festivities should begin after Thanksgiving, as December starts. Others believe the celebrations should start as early as November first. Everybody has their own unique opinion on what time is prime to put up Christmas decor.
Eaton High School student Aya Kinoshita (26) said, “I think it’s too early to start Christmas festivities anytime before Thanksgiving, but it is never too early to get into the Christmas spirit.”
Christmas is a special time of year, but some people at EHS think the decorations should not be put up until after Thanksgiving has its own time to shine. This is what an overwhelming majority of the students and staff at EHS believe. This opinion doesn’t come down to hate for the holiday, it is simply the fact that Christmas shouldn’t take away from the other holidays before it. Thanksgiving shouldn’t be overshadowed by Christmas festivities.
In America 54% of Americans kick off the countdown to Christmas by putting up a Christmas tree when November starts. For some, the Christmas spirit can’t be contained, and the Christmas celebrations begin even before November. This goes against what most of the EHS staff and students stand for, and completely cuts off any time for Thanksgiving.
Eaton High School counselor Mrs. Stephanus said, “It’s taking away from other holidays if you begin decorating too early, especially Thanksgiving.”
With the people who believe Christmas should have to wait until after Thanksgiving to begin decorating, some believe the Christmas decor can’t come soon enough. Although Thanksgiving is seen to be skipped over by many Americans, the happiness Christmas brings is undeniable.
EHS student Raegan Fields (26) said, “I’m actually going to shop for Christmas decorations today, and I’m so excited to start decorating for this Christmas season early.”
Occasionally, the Christmas spirit takes over the hearts of people to the point where they can’t contain their excitement. Whether that means shopping in November for Christmas deocorations, or listening to Christmas music in the summer, Christmas definitely evokes a sentimental feeling in people. There are so many aspects to the holiday that make it special for many this becomes apparent especially when Decorating a house for the holidays. It’s not only about decorating a house with a tree and ornaments, it’s about the true meaning behind Christmas. Christmas is a time when family comes together to enjoy past traditions and reminisce in the memories they have of this magical holiday.
EHS student Austin Crider said, “Before Halloween is too early to start decorating for Christmas, but when November comes around it is a good time to start getting into the Christmas spirit and start the Christmas traditions everyone knows and loves.”
Some people believe that this increase of Christmas spirit is taken away from other holidays, but Christmas enthusiasts disagree for many reasons. In the eyes of many, Christmas is a time that brings back childhood memories. Christmas isn’t only about putting a tree up, it’s about what decorating brings into the home.
