The Eaton community and the students of Eaton High School recently held an academic awards night. It was hosted to recognize all of the students who have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. All of the students, community and family members were welcome to come.
Out of three awards given, around 84 students received the Achievement Award. The Achievement Award is a 3.0-3.49 GPA or higher. 91 students received the Honors Award, for a 3.50-3.99 GPA or higher. A 4.0 GPA or higher is represented with the Excellence Award, which 57 students received.
To begin the awards night, EHS principal, Jessica Grable shared a speech with the crowd to show her appreciation towards the students who have received awards, and to state how hard they have all individually worked for the awards. Following the speech, admin announced every student, and they walked onto the stage to take a picture and receive a pin or patch to potentially put on their letterman jacket.
The ideas to have a bigger attendance have not been brought to admins’ attention. Students have been talking around the hall saying they think it was boring. There are many ways not talked about on how to improve it, but these people just need to speak up.
Several students didn’t attend to receive their reward. Admin isn’t quite sure why the students aren’t showing up. Jacob Schmunk (26) said, “It was really slow and they just called up names.”
Students of EHS aren’t attending the awards night because they aren’t super flattered by the idea of it. Each student feels that it isn’t very important and they don’t need to attend. The Eaton High School Administration needs to find a way to grab the attention of more students.
Brooklyn Tribbett (26) said, “I think if they added food or something like that, more people would come.”
There were not just negative things about awards night, a lot of positive things were said too. Ryan Sharp (25) said, “My favorite part was watching everyone get awards.”
The thought behind awards night has a very big presence, being that it is to honor the excellent students of Eaton High School. It also allows the parents to see their child accomplish something great. The negative things could be easily improved to increase the attendance and the positive things are the reason the event continues to be held at the Eaton High School.
