The Eaton Reds participated in the St. Vrain cross country meet that was hosted by Lyons High School. The meet took place on Sept 21. The boys varsity finished 18th place as a team, with Clayton Heid, a senior at Eaton high school, finishing 44th, and Jax Robson (26), finishing 58th. Delaney Reuter (27), raced in the 4A 5A instead of the 2A 3A race. She still managed to place second in the race.
The cross country team still has four meets to improve their times and hopefully qualify for state. Currently, Reuter (27) is the only person on the team qualified for state. Qualifications are hard, and only few get in. The team will continue to practice and workout to try to improve their times before state.
Weather can be a big factor on perform as-well. Things like wind, rain, and temperature affects bodies and mindsets. Senior Omar Rodriguez said, “It was definitely a difficult course, but I still managed to PR… The weather was not the best either.”
Team spirit is something that can make or break a team. Rodriguez said, “The team spirit made up for the meet because we encouraged each other.” Even a slight amount of encouragement can change someone’s mindset and have them perform better.
Hopefully within the next couple of weeks more athletes will be able to qualify for the state meet. Their next meet will be held at Mead High School
