Nikocado Avocado has deceived the social media world. For the past two years, the famous Youtuber and social media influencer has been posting mukbangs of him eating extremely large and slightly disturbing amounts of food. What nobody saw coming, however, was that all of the videos were pre-recorded.
Nikocado Avocado claims that he went from 411 pounds to a baffling 158 while he was posting the pre-recorded videos. In his most recent video, he revealed his skinny self as he claimed that he has “always been two steps ahead.”
He made it clear that the goal was to fool everyone, making him “the villain” as he claimed many times in his explanation video. The video blew up across many platforms, as it was disturbing to many to see such a drastic change in character and appearance.
Nikocado professes that his videos over the last two years were a social experiment, saying “this has been the greatest social experiment of my entire life.”
The point of the experiment remains unclear. Was it to see how people would treat a morbidly obese person online? Was it to see if he played the part well enough for people to believe the character he was playing? Or was it just to see if anyone would catch on to the fact that the videos were pre-recorded?
Although it is fascinating how people so easily believe what they see online, it is skeptical to think his goal all along was to promote his social experiment. There are strong beliefs that this “social experiment” was really more of a business endorsement.
Nikocado Avocado’s videos have continued to spike in popularity over the past two years.
With more than 4 million subscribers on YouTube, he played the part so well that people were convinced that he was actually just a self-centered overweight man. Ivy Samuelson (26) said, “I used to watch his videos, and I thought they were disgusting. I didn’t think he was playing a character.”
The videos gave him a significant amount of fame, and with fame comes money. He even used his platform to sell his own merchandise.
Already having a significant amount of fame, his video exposing his current self was another way to catch the attention of the social media world. As soon as his videos started to get repetitive, boring, and getting less views online, he posted the reveal of his obesity-makeover. This instantly got him back to the top of the relevancy scale.
His plan for self-created fame is seen as a genius in the eyes of many, even though many people are confused on what exactly the purpose of the experiment was. Junior Maddie Joseph said, “I think it was definitely more of a promoting business idea, just because the whole thing was basically fake.”
For the amount of fame he is getting, there is no doubt that the money is following. Whether the point of the scheme was really just for a social experiment, or if it was to grow his platform and make money, Nikocado Avocado successfully did both.
