Two teachers at Eaton High School have recently announced their engagement. Payton Sporleder is an art teacher at the school, and Cameron Stewart is one of the school’s physical education teachers. The couple, who both started their teaching at Eaton during the 22-23 school year, met during the new teacher orientation as part of the same first-year program. Their first date consisted of pizza and bowling and their relationship blossomed as they got to know each other.
Despite their professional lives, they have managed to balance work and their relationship effortlessly. They prioritize their careers and maintain a professional relationship during school, which is why students were surprised to learn they were dating. Their strong communication skills have been a key attribute to their successful relationship. Stewart said, “There’s always challenges, but it’s been pretty smooth going, and so we know that there will be challenges ahead in our future, and we’re kind of ready to just tackle them together.”
Sporleder and Stewart have many memorable experiences that they have shared during their relationship. Sporleder recalls attending Mr. Corneliusen’s wedding, hiking and watching movies and comedy shows like House of Dragon as some of her favorite moments together. Stewart remembers their first date, trips to the lake with friends and spending holidays together as some of his favorite memories as a couple.
The couple got engaged this past summer, with Stewart gaining inspiration from a TikTok trend for the proposal. He used a “paint your partner” idea, but instead of painting Sporleder, he painted, “Will you marry me?” on the canvas. Both knew early on in their relationship that they wanted to get married. The couple plans to get married in the fall of next year. Sporleder said, “I was just really emotional all together because I didn’t expect it, and I am just very happy and very excited for when we start wedding planning.”
Sporleder and Stewart’s engagement has brought joy among EHS students and faculty, who wish them all the best as they plan their future together.
