The Eaton Reds volleyball season has officially begun and began with an impressive start. The girls stood their ground in their first game against Windsor High School on Aug. 27 winning 3 of the 4 sets. The girls also won 3 of 5 sets at Palmer Ridge High School. The Reds have begun the season with a record of 7-0.
According to Colorado Maxpreps, EHS Volleyball is ranked eighth at the state ranking and second place in the 3A division.
The season began with the introduction of the new head volleyball coach, Matt Meagher. Meagher has coached volleyball before and was ecstatic to be able to coach the team of the town he resides in. For the existing team, a new coach was an adaptation to make, but the girls have handled it very well. Meagher said, “ So far this season has been a whole lot of fun, the girls are playing at a very high level. They have big expectations and big goals while working very hard. Transitions have gone pretty dang smoothly and we have gotten some big wins.” Not only have the Lady Reds worked very hard, but Coach Meagher has made the transition smooth to facilitate a winning record.
The volleyball team’s success is due in part to the pre-season open gyms that began in the summer of 2024. These practices became mandatory once the school year started and have payed off in recent games. Sophomore and Junior Varsity player Ashby Breining said, “Volleyball has been very fun this year. I have made new friends and I have also had many great experiences throughout the start of the season. This year I think I’ve become a stronger and better player from learning new things and doing more around the court.” The girls have worked hard together this year to achieve their goals and work through hard adaptations while staying strong as a team.
When the class of 2024 graduated, the Lady Reds lost five key players, but that hasn’t stopped the 2025 seniors from filling their shoes. Sophomore Junior varsity and Varsity player Katie St. Jean said “My goals this year are to improve overall and to improve my mental side of the game and to have a more uplifting personality on the court. The season so far is good, neither JV or Varsity has lost a game. My favorite part of volleyball is the bus rides with my team.” The so far title of undefeated in the 2024 season can be explained by the great bonding experiences the team has with each other and the relationship on and off the court.
There is very much excitement surrounding this new and undefeated team with more to come. The Reds hope to stay undefeated and achieve their goals as the season progresses. The next game for the girls will take place on Sep. 12 at Peak to Peak hoping to stay undefeated.
