As homecoming week approaches, students at Eaton High School are preparing for fun activities and unforgettable memories. Anticipation is building as everyone looks forward to the parade, dance, football game, tailgate and more.
Justice Aleman is a teacher at EHS and this is her first year running student council. Aleman said, “I’m looking forward to the relationships the kids are building in student council and getting more kids involved; kind of putting our own spin on things and learning from what was done last year to make it a more fun experience for everybody.”
The week leading up to homecoming is a spirit week that will feature a variety of dress-up days. Monday will be skier vs. surfer, Tuesday is barbeque parent vs. sports parent, Wednesday is monochromatic class colors, Thursday is rhyme without reason and Friday is Reds’ day. The second annual bonfire, set to take place in the field near the tennis courts, will include food trucks, yard games, and potentially a cutout of the rival team crafted by the art department which is an improvement from last year.
On Wednesday Sep. 11, the Powder Puff and Power Stuff games will feature the junior and the senior classes.
On Friday, Sep. 13, the homecoming parade will wind through town around 2:15 p.m. Parade float forms are available in the front office for those interested in participating. Expected floats include cheerleading, class floats, various sports teams, and clubs. The homecoming court will also have their own floats.
The FCCLA club, led by Alexis Cochran, is organizing the annual Big Red Tailgate, which will follow the parade from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot by the football field. The tailgate will feature Giant Jenga, corn hole tournaments, face painting, and other yard games. People who attend can also enjoy food trucks, the selling of merchandise from Monarch, and a dunk tank.
Cochran said, “We encourage people to sign up for the cornhole tournament, buy a parking spot, hang out with family and friends and help our FCCLA chapter earn some money for the school year!”
Following the tailgate, Eaton’s football team will take on Platte Valley at 6 p.m. During halftime, the cheer team will have an opportunity to showcase their routine, that they have been working diligently on. Cheer coach Texie Jonsson said, “We’ve really been working on our stunting, so to showcase that in the performance, I’m excited for that.”
The homecoming dance, with the theme “Cloud Nine,” will occur the following night. This year’s dance will include new features such as provided water and snacks, as well as an outdoor area for students to enjoy. Trinity Salberg (26) said, “I’m most excited getting ready with all my friends and then going to dinner and then coming to the dance is fun.”
Homecoming week is bringing excitement and anticipation among students for the memorable events that will leave a lasting impression on Eaton High School students.
