The school season has officially kicked off, which means that fall sports are approaching the beginning of their 2024 seasons. Any students who are involved in sports that are not offered at EHS have the opportunity to pursue that sport at another school in the area. Eamon and Alex Shaw (25), Zeke Wawrzyniak (26) and Brennan Magnuson (26) take advantage of this opportunity. Wawrzyniak and Magnuson play varsity soccer for Windsor High School, and the Shaw boys play for Northridge High School.
In last year’s season, Northridge made it to the playoffs with the record of 7-4-5. Their season ended with a devastating loss to Air Academy with a score of 6-0. This year they are hoping to make it back to the playoffs with more success. Windsor’s record for last year was 10-6-1. They also made it to the playoffs, and lost in the second round to Cheyenne Mountain. The season opener game proved that they are on the right track for this year’s season.
With a final score of 6-0 against Northridge, Wawrzyniak assisted the Wizard’s in their first win of the season. In the first quarter of the game, the Wizard’s had a little bit of trouble matching the skill of Northridge, but their distress did not last long, as they came back and ruled the field for the rest of the competition.
The Northridge boys’ soccer team put up a good fight in the match-up, but the Windsor boys walked away with the victory in the end. A. Shaw played the full 80 minutes of the game and proved his soccer abilities. “I feel like I controlled the middle very well,” said Shaw about his performance.
Unfortunately, at the beginning of the second half, E. Shaw faced a hard fall and was out for the rest of the game. His injury ended up being severe, and he will not be able to continue playing the remainder of the season due to a break in his collarbone. E. Shaw said, “I am disappointed, but I have faith in my team and my ability to come back stronger than I was before.” Although he was faced with a large setback, he will still be at every game supporting his teammates. He has gained strong connections with his teammates as they have played together all four years of highschool. E. Shaw’s last year was cut short, but his faith will hold stronger than his disappointment.
Magnuson is also out for the beginning of the season due to a knee injury, and has not gotten the chance to play yet. At this game, he came to support his teammates and congratulate them on their victory. Hopefully, he will be able to return to the field further into the soccer season.
The four athletes are all acquaintances at school, but with that comes a friendly rivalry between them while on the soccer field. Despite wearing another team’s jersey, Wawrzyniak, Magnuson, and the Shaws continue to represent Eaton High School incredibly well during their soccer season.
