This year a selected number of Eaton High School students took part in the 2014 Patriot League Honor Choir concert on the 16 of January. The students selected to go were freshman to seniors. The mixed choir had 12 EHS students and 66 students in all. The Women’s Choir had 9 EHS students 40 students in all. This year there were more people, from those who were accepted, who dropped out than any years in the past. Each choirs performed four songs that were both enjoyable and challenging. Contreras said, “It went very well and the choirs came a long way from the beginning.(2) Eaton kids got solos and my favorite songs were Sansa Kroma from the Women’s and Circle of Life from the mixed.” The two directors this year were Sarah Harrison (Women’s) and Stephen Ross (Mixed).. Mishayla Stephenson said, “Every year the directors get better and ours was phenomenal and funny.” The students had a little over 3 months to practice their music on their own to become prepared for the concert. The day of the concert the students then went to the Union Colony Civics Center to practice all day with the rest of the students selected from other schools. Andrew Nelson said, “I wish I had practiced more instead of waiting until the last minute.” The songs that were selected were somewhat difficult and they had to learn them mostly on their own. Mrs. C said, “(This opportunity) will make them stronger singers, better musicians, and expose them to other singers, directors, and more challenging music.” Many are hoping that next year’s Honor Choir will bring students who are more dedicated.
