The baseball season has officially started, and the Reds opened on a good note with a win in just four innings. The first game of the season was against Northridge High School on Tuesday, Mar. 19. The final score was 18-0 and the boys demonstrated their hard work from the past few weeks of practices. “We all played good and the chemistry was there for all of us together,” said Cooper Nider (25).
The Reds hold the record for the longest win streak in the nation with 42 consecutive wins. Being three time state champions in three years, there is a lot of pressure on the team to bring their focus and best efforts to the field. Of course, their goal is to bring home the state title for the fourth time in a row. Freshman Peyton Smith said, “It is a very big opportunity for us as freshmen to continue the Eaton legacy. We have very big shoes to fill, but it all can happen.” The freshmen are watching the upperclassmen carefully, ready to step up when they need to. The spirits of this team are always high, and they are ready to continue their winning streak throughout the rest of the season.
The game against the Northridge Grizzlies hosted many highlights for Reds players. Joey Blaskowski (24) set the tone for the season going 3-for-3 including a double and a triple, scoring three runs, and driving in two runs. Lucas Stone (24) started the season on the mound and struck out six batters in three innings, giving up no runs or hits by the Grizzlies. Reds’ catcher, Gunnar Duncan (24), also contributed a double and drove in three runs. The entire game was filled with honorable highlights from a number of other team members. The Reds are starting the season on top, and are hoping to continue progressing as a whole team. Nider said, “I want to continue this win streak that we have going and take one win at a time. I hope we finish this year on top for the four-peat.” Their next game will be on Thursday, Mar. 21 at their home field against Weld Central. All Eaton baseball alumni have free admission to the season opener as the boys play their first game on the new EHS field.
