While most states have decided to keep Donald Trump on the 2024 Presidential ballots, there are two states that disagree. The states Colorado (CO) and Maine (ME) want Donald Trump off the 2024 election ballots.
Unlike most other states, CO is mostly made up of members of the Democratic party rather than Republican. Because of this, CO leans more on the Democratic side meaning they do not support Trump. A lot of the Democratic party would prefer Trump not being on the 2024 Presidential Election Ballot.
As this may seem unfair, CO has used the reasoning that Trump should not appear on this ballot due to the events that took place at the capital on Jan. 6. These events taking place at the capital have brought up a lot of attention to the 14th amendment insurrection clause which prevents those who “engaged in insurrection” against the US Government from holding an office without the approval of two thirds of The House and the Senate.
Shortly after, ME decided that this was an idea they would like to support. Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows took Trump off of the ballot under the 14th amendment insurrection clause.
While taking Trump off of the ballots seems like an easy option for the Democratic Party, the Trump Administration appealed this ruling and has requested that the state overturn the decision. Due to this being a very controversial topic and decision made by the states CO and ME, the removals of Trump from the ballot are still unresolved.
The states CO and ME will keep fighting over Trump’s spot on the ballot and so will the Trump Administration with new news on this topic every day.
