This past week, Eaton High School swam in a tri-meet against Windsor and Holyoke on Tuesday January 22. This meet was one of few before the big conference meet in February and Tuesday’s meet was just another practice meet to prepare the girls for the conference. Coach Doug Stone has helped the girls get to the place that they are in. Coach Stone said his biggest goal for the team this year was “to have a strong team and to multiple girls make to state in their events”. For Jenny Haley, junior, one of the biggest challenges that she had faced this year was that one of the other swimmers who swam the backstroke backed out causing Haley to be the “only backstroker and the pressure was applied”. Haley pulled through and with her positive attitude she made the best of every swim meet. Jazmin Schwark, senior, was able to tell that one of her biggest challenges was that she was doing “hard dives and being more confident” in her dives. Both girls agreed that their most memorable swim so far this year was at Rampart where Haley had a qualifying backstroke swim and Schwark had a qualifying 200 Medley Relay. Along with team swimming the best that they ever could, all of the seniors on the swim team have been recognized for their outstanding passion and work ethic which will cause them to be greatly missed. The team continues to prepare for the upcoming conference meet with more and more swimmers hoping that they can qualify to swim at State.
