In the music industry, the highest honor one can receive is a Grammy Award. The first annual Grammy Awards show was held in 1958 to honor musical accomplishments. This year’s airing of the award show captured many memorable moments for the big pop stars in attendance.
The 2024 Grammys was shown Feb. 4. With plenty of categories of recognition, plenty of famous musical artists went home with Grammy Awards in their hands. Pop music icon Taylor Swift was awarded for her most recent album Midnights for the Best Pop Vocal Album. She walked away with her 13th Grammy Award in her career as an artist. On this special night, she announced to the viewers that she will be releasing a new album titled, The Tortured Poets Department, that will be released Apr. 19, 2024. Sophomore Brooklyn Tribbett said, “I’m not the biggest fan of Taylor Swift, and personally I think that the title of this new album is too long and doesn’t match the vibe of the rest of her albums.” Millions of people have voiced on social media platforms about their mixed feelings on the topic.
Luke Combs covered the song, Fast Car that was originally performed and written by Tracy Chapman. Over the past year, Combs’ version of the song has climbed to the top of the charts. Fans have been wondering where Chapman has been, as she has stepped out of the spotlight almost completely. Before the night of the Grammy Awards, it had almost been a decade since Chapman performed in public. Chapman and Combs put on an iconic performance together, sparking many sentimental feelings for people. Performing was rare for Chapman, but remarkable nonetheless. This moment is said to have been the best highlight of the night.
Other awards were claimed by various music artists. The Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year awards were both won by Miley Cyrus for her song Flowers. Lainey Wilson’s album Bell Bottom Country was recognized as the Best Country Album. The very popular album created by SZA called Snooze was awarded for being Best R&B Song this year, and lastly, the Song of The Year was Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For.” which made its debut in the popular Barbie movie.
Kaden Yin (26) said, “I thought that Zach Bryan deserved to win the Best Country Album award. He is one of the most popular country artists of this time and I was very surprised to see that he didn’t win.”
The 66th annual Grammy Awards was full of surprises and unforgettable moments. The music industry is constantly producing new music that can be enjoyed by any individual. This year’s awards boosted each artist’s listeners.
