Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) is a career and technical organization that prepares students for careers in business. FBLA’s mission is to “inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences” (Future Business Leaders of America). Students can compete against other students from different schools in their district to potentially qualify for the state competition. These students can choose to compete with a chapter event, objective test, presentation event, production event, or role play event.
Eaton High School was well represented at the Colorado District One Conference. The EHS Chapter had 41 students compete in various events at the district competition. Of these students, 20 of them placed in their category and qualified for the state conference. To qualify for the state conference, students must place in the top five for an objective test, or in the top four for a competitive event. The Colorado FBLA State Leadership Conference will be held on Apr. 1, 2024 through Apr. 3, 2024
Cal Sidwell (25), a state conference qualifier, said, “I am excited to spend three days at the State Leadership Conference in April. I am looking forward to learning more about businesses and building relationships with students from other schools.”
Not only did the EHS Chapter qualify 20 students for the state conference, it won an award on the district level. At the Colorado District One Conference, the EHS chapter won the Largest Chapter Membership Increase from the 2023 conference to the 2024 conference. In the previous year, only eight members attended the district conference. This year, five times as many members attended the conference.
Business teacher and FBLA advisor, Alexander Adams, said, “One of our goals from last year, going into this year, was to increase membership. I am proud of our officers for recruiting so many new members, and inviting their friends to join our FBLA Chapter.”
The students who will be attending the state conference will continue to prepare to compete against students from all districts in Colorado. The following students will compete at the state competition: Dayne Riddle (25), Jackson Laswell (25), Nolan Fryer (25), Madison Crider (24), Julia Meagher (24), Shae Stone (24), Tayla Wiedeman (24), Cooper Wiedeman (27), Paxon Wilkinson (27), Brooklyn Tribett (26), Chloe Crider (26), Religion Hawes (26), Reece Dyer (25), Olivia Betsworth (27), Rylee Olinger (26), Cal Sidwell (25), Cope Jonsson (27), Hayden Logan (26), Lila DeJager (26), and Madeline Smith (26).
