Eaton High School girl’s swimming competed at the Weld County Invitational, their last meet before heading into the Patriot League Conference Meet this Saturday, Feb. 3. The Reds have been preparing all season to be in the best shape to place as high as possible, something that was evident in their performance at the meet last Friday, Jan. 26.
The Reds finished second as a team, right after Greeley West. They scored 355 points as a team, more than tripling the third place team, Valley, who scored 101 points.
The Reds had several top placing finishes that contributed to the team’s overall score. Senior Andie Rasmussen placed 3rd in both the 50 Free and 100 Free, finishing with a time of 29 and 1:01.17. Following Rasmussen in the 100 Free was Dharma Perkins (25) with a time of 1:01.27. Other third place finishes include Sophie Morgan (25) in the 100 Fly, swimming a 1:12.47, and Karley Riggs (25) in the 200 Medley, with a time of 3:07.04.
The Reds took first place in the 100 Free Relay, finishing in 1:54.72. Rasmussen was the first split, giving them a strong start. Morgan and Mackinzie Hays (25) were the second and third splits, leading to Perkins finishing off the race with the fastest split and a time of 27.46.
The team has worked hard this season to be able to make an impact at state. Morgan said, ¨I want to get better every race and try to improve my seating for state.¨ Her hope for the team is to place in the top three at conference and set many personal records.
Aside from finishing this season strong, Rasmussen is looking at the bigger picture and has goals for the entire program. “It would be awesome if our team could expand in the future and get more girls interested in the sport. It’s such a great way to make new friends, compete, and get in shape,” she said.
As a senior, Rasmussen is extra appreciative of her last moments on the team. “It has been an honor and a privilege to be able to be a part of this incredible team. Everyone supports and encourages each other every day.”
