Eaton hosted this year’s Regional competition on Friday, November 3. Eaton came into regionals ranked first and left, maintaining that same status. The Reds competed in two games against Bennett High School and Forge Christian High School and did not lose a set in both games, therefore winning regionals.
The Reds went into the state tournament securing the third seed, and gained the advantage of having a bye in the first round. The girls took on University High School in the second round after University won their first game. The Reds demonstrated their determination and won their match 3-1.
Tyanne Bartel (24) said, “The atmosphere of the state was very positive, and you could definitely feel the pressure of it being state.”
The Reds then took on Resurrection Christian in order to earn a spot in the semifinals. That match ended the same as their previous win by taking down Resurrection Christian in four sets. This win guaranteed them a spot in the semifinals and a chance at the finals.
Madi Cridder (24) said, “It was definitely very loud. It was very forgiving for the team when messing up but we’re also very intense and definitely knew the pressure was on you to do good.”
Eaton faced off against University again after University was able to climb back into the tournament and get to the semifinal game. The match went back and forth the entire game causing it to be sent into five sets. The Reds could not come out on top to University and lost their semifinal game in five sets.
This season was full of outstanding performances by the Reds. They were able to win the regional tournament and fight all the way to the semifinals in the state tournament. Eaton will definitely look to carry on this success into next year’s season.
