Surrounding the Halloween season, the Eaton High School Cheer team competed in the 2023 Boo Bash competition, hosted at Roosevelt High School. On Oct. 28, 2023, the Varsity cheer team of 18 girls competed in the 2A and 3A Game Day divisions. The girls finished in second place, being the runners-up. “I felt very nervous and excited during our first competition. I think the girls did really well, considering it was our first time and we didn’t know what to expect. I’m very excited to compete in the league and give it our all to beat the Academy,” said senior cheer captain, Haley Beall. This was the first competition for the team ever, which turned out to be very successful. The girls performed a three-minute routine including cheers, stunts, and choreographed routines that could be used in true game day situations. There were several other high school cheer and dance teams at the competition making the stakes high for the EHS cheer team. Teams competed in divisions such as traditional All Girl, traditional Co-Ed, Game Day, and Dance. “It was definitely a new experience. In the past, I’ve only done traditional all-girls cheer, so it was exciting to be able to try something new and improve my skills in new ways. I love competing and I think we all were so excited to be at Boo Bash,” said senior cheer captain Kaeley Cassidy.
The EHS Cheer teams’ next competition will be the Patriot League Cheer Competition hosted at Strasburg High School. “There is definitely room for improvement but everyone on the team is willing to work hard and get where they need to be. I’m super excited for our next competition as we will be able to compete against more teams that were not at our last competition. Competitions are also super bonding experiences for the team and I love getting to spend more time with the girls,” said Cassidy.
Following the league competition, the girls will compete at the State Spirit Championships in December. This competition will be hosted at the Denver Coliseum, Dec. seventh through the ninth. “I’m so excited to compete and enjoy these special moments with the girls. I am ready to compete as a team and see how much we can improve together and what we need to work on to become successful,” said Edita Palafox (26).
