After three months of practice and anticipation, the Eaton Knowledge Bowl team headed to Estes Park Saturday, Nov. 16 early in the morning for its first meet.
Eaton tied Frontier Academy for fourth place with a score of 71. They were placed in the highest room for oral rounds after taking second on the written round with a score of 40, only four points behind defending league champions Estes Park. Eaton stayed in the top room for first and second oral rounds but moved to the second room after a rough second round. They scored 15 points in the last oral round securing a fourth place finish.
Members of the team expect to do well the season based on last year’s performance. Last year, the team earned its way to state for the first time in 16 years. The Knowledge Bowl team graduated no seniors last year, making the majority of this years’ members returning competitors. The teams hope this age and experience will boost the team’s chances at a successful season. This year’s co-captains are Ian Spooner and Avery Jones (14). They are accompanied on the varsity team this year by fellow senior Erin Carney and juniors Trevor Alm and Zane Cooper. Eaton took two teams to Estes Park on Saturday to compete at both the varsity and JV levels.
