Hamas Fighters are a part of an Islamic resistance movement that is responsible for the war demonstration in Southern Israel. These extremists have the hope of building an Islamic State in the place of the areas that have been destroyed. Hamas fighters unveiled their aggression and power by flooding Israel’s borders on October 9th, 2023 with an estimated 1,000 fighters taking part in the assault. Hamas fighters entered Israel’s borders and openly fired upon multiple areas causing catastrophic civilian casualties and took hundreds of hostages. The fighters then fled back into Palestine where Israel looked to retaliate. Over 1,300 Israelis have been killed in this attack and 2,600 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s retaliation against these attacks.
Hamas fighters didn’t just target the Israeli military for their attacks, but also targeted civilians. The musical festival Nova was held near the Israel’s border when the Hamas attacks began, and this festival was an apparent target for the fighters. The Hamas Fighters opened fire on participants at the festival and anyone trying to flee the horrors of the festival. It was estimated that 260 people were killed at the festival and many more taken hostage and shipped to Gaza.
Gunnar Duncan (24) said, “I think we should definitely be careful with what we get involved with. Nobody wants another war to start, and with all these conflicts it’s concerning how close we are to get ting involved.”
As of now, Israel is not a part of NATO; but the U.S. is planning to support Israel with military and political guidance. Although America is not obligated to interfere with this tension, America is still a strong ally of Israel. President Joseph Biden said, “The United States warns against any other party hostile to Israel seeking advantage in this situation. My Administration’s support for Israel’s security is rock solid and unwavering.”
America’s biggest concern as of now, is Iran’s involvement in funding and training Hamas fighters, and Israel may attempt to target Iran which may bring multiple other countries into the conflict. Iran does support various necessities to Hamas fighters but does not lead or correlate their actions. So it is unclear how much, if any, involvement Iran had with the Oct. 9th attack. Many countries such as Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen have all threatened their involvement if Israel were to spark aggression towards Iran.
Lucas Stone (24) said, “I don’t think that there will be a draft or we will get involved. We didn’t get involved in the Ukraine and Russia conflict, so we shouldn’t get involved in this either. It is terrible what is happening but I don’t think America should get involved.”
The United States has not had a draft since the Vietnam War in 1975. However, in the most recent battles involving The United States no draft has been needed. Even though tensions between political groups are escalating, the likelihood of another draft taking place soon is very unlikely.
Tensions around the Globe are rising, and the looming threat of American involvement in these conflicts is a growing concern for many Americans. As of now, there is no clear plan for the U.S. to provide military assistance and force to aid Israel. America is enduring its own conflict with electing a Speaker of the House for the House of Representatives. Until this is accomplished, the U.S. involvement with the Israel and Palestine conflict remain unknown.
