On Sept. 3, 1939, the Allies declared war on Nazi Germany. The allies consisted of Great Britain, France, Australia and New Zealand. Two days prior to this declaration, German forces had bombed Polish cities and towns. This declaration marks the beginning of World War II. Six years and one day after the bombings that started it all, Sept. 2, 1945, Japan surrendered in WWII, ending the war. This week in history marks both the beginning and ending of WWII.
Eighteen years later (1963), the United States had its first half-hour of TV with a CBS Evening News broadcast, and now TV is on 24 hours all day everyday. On Sept. 1, 1985 Dr. Robert Ballard and Jean Louis Michel found the wreck of the Titanic on a joint U.S. and French expedition. Then thirteen years later (Sept. 4, 1998), Google was founded, nuff said.
