Summer marks the start of Major league Baseball season. Baseball is the most popular sport in summer and teams are already getting ready to play. Spring training for this year’s season will take place with the National League playing its games in Arizona and the American League playing in Florida.

Last season it was the Houston Astros taking home the trophy over the Philadelphia Phillies. Houston almost had a complete sweep over Philadelphia but ended the World Series 4-1. Houston has been in the last two World Series and won it back in 2017. MLB fans are longing for another team to come in to take the success of Houston, but as of now, Houston is the favorite to win the 2023 season. 

Mitch Haythorn (24) said, “A lot of their players are returning from last year, with the exception of Verlander, their starting pitcher. They still have a very good chance of winning it again.” Justin Verlander was a big part in the success of Houston, but he has accepted a two-year $86 million contract with the New York Mets. However, Haythorn still believes that they will have yet another successful year in 2023.

The second favorite to win this season is the New York Yankees. Aaron Judge is New York’s star right fielder who is coming off of a very impressive season in 2022. It was unclear whether Judge will come back to New York in free agency, but back in December he signed a nine-year, $360 million contract with New York. Another uncertainty the Yankees faced, was first baseman Anthony Rizzo who after the season, was headed to free agency. Over the off-season, he signed a two-year $40 million contract for New York. It is clear that New York has no plans of going out of World Series contention by signing two-star players to big contracts. 

Walker Martin (23) said, “It was definitely a good move for Arron Judge to return to the Yankees because he knows the area and has already had past success with them.” Martin believes that this was the best move for Judge and that the Yankees will continue to thrive with him on their team.

The wait for the new MLB season is almost up with play starting on March 30. The season will go on till June 15 when the World Series games will start. Even though Houston is the favorite to win, it is still very uncertain who will take home the World Series win this year.
