Reds Control the north
Lady Reds take down the Highland Huskies at home
The Reds faced off a non-conference game against the Highland Huskies and took a win with a score of 50-42. The team stands at second behind the University Bulldogs in the 4A Patriot League and has an overall win of 14-5.
On Friday night Jan. 3, the gym was completely packed and not a single seat was open. In the first quarter the game started off slow and the Reds and Huskies were trading off points. As it got closer to the fourth quarter, the intensity kept rising with the score being close. “It felt surreal playing in that game, definitely a fun atmosphere. We just had to use that energy and use it to our advantage when playing, and try not to get too overwhelmed,” said Blayke Duncan (23).
Emily Maske (23) led the team to victory with a total of 12 points and 11 rebounds. Tayla Wiedeman (24) followed behind Maske with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Madison Chavez (23) also helped the team with offense and defensive rebounds with a total of 11. The Reds gathered a total of 44 rebounds that helped them steal a win against the Huskies. Madison Flynn (23) said, “During the game I stayed calm by blocking out the noise of the crowd and focusing on the next play.” Before the game started there was much anticipation in the beginning of the week from both the audience and players. Although this game wasn’t a conference game, the matchup was very intense and people were calling it “battle of the north” to see who runs the north.
The Reds will face their next opponent this Tuesday, Jan. 7 against Valley. Followed by that they will compete against Weld Central on Thursday, Jan. 9. For weekly updates tune into Eaton Red Ink or watch live on NFHS.
