Eaton High School welcomes back students with more possibilities
Community gets a chance to walk through the new building
As the Eaton community knows, school is back in session and tours through the new Eaton High School were given. A limited tour of the new school was open for the public at the ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 4, 2022. Soon after, the town’s first roundabout at the intersection of County Road 35 and County Road 74 was opened. The building is still under construction, but was completed enough to welcome students back in time for the first day of school on Sept. 6, 2022.
“There’s going to be great opportunities when it is done and it is very clean,” said Melissa Achziger, the business agriculture teacher. On Sept. 11, 2022, Eaton High School hosted the first public walk-through of the building. Food was provided and Eaton FFA was there to advertise the club. Teagan Joseph (23), president of FFA, said, “It’s huge and it feels very open, but cozy. Specifically the greenhouse is what I am most excited about because we will have an actual greenhouse sale in order to raise money for the chapter.”
Not just the academic side was noticed at the building walk-through, but the athletics impressed plenty of community members and pleased students. The football team has a practice field and game field, where their first football game was held on Sept. 11, 2022. The softball and baseball teams have new fields as well as more seating for the fans. Following that, the tennis team received seven new tennis courts with a mini parking lot right by them.
Inside the building, there is a main gym and auxiliary gym on the first floor, and on the second floor is the new weight room, including all the new equipment. Not far from the weightroom is the library and booth seating area. Students can use these quiet spaces to do homework or study when needed. At the moment the learning stairs in the cafeteria are under construction, but when opened, will be used as a place to sit and each lunch at. “My favorite part about the new building is the sports facilities. I’m looking forward to having a larger parking lot,” said David Reynolds (24). Overall, the community is super excited to see Eaton High School thrive with all the opportunities and the students are very grateful for everything they have been given.
