Girls Basketball take down rivals
Leffler leads team to a big win
The Lady Reds defeated their rivals in a five point victory. February has begun, and first, girls basketball beat the Bulldogs of University. With a final score of 55-50, the Reds improved their record to 14-1.
The Reds were led by senior Ahana Leffler (22) who dropped 18 points in the tough matchup. Not only did she lead in points on the offensive side, but she also dished the rock and had four assists in the game. Leffler said, “Playing together as a team and having fun is what has led to our success so far.” The other two leading scores, Leyah Scott (23) and Blayke Duncan (23) also scored double digits. Scott knocked down three threes as well as a two-pointer and a free throw giving her 12 points on the night. Duncan scored 10 points in the game.
Defensively, Leffler had another outstanding game where she had five steals which led the squad. Duncan was right behind her in that category because she had three steals. Madison Chavez (23) was the team’s leading rebounder with seven boards. “A win like this helps us because now we know what we need to work on like our composure with tougher competition that are high pressure games.”
This big win gives the Reds momentum for their next game on Feb. 2, where they will travel to Liberty Common High School. “Our biggest goals are beating the rest of our competition this season,” Leffler said. They will take on the 5-7 Eagles who are coming off a loss to Resurrection Christain. After that, they will take on the undefeated Platte Valley Broncos who will enter the game 15-0.
