Reds Basketball keeps winning streak alive

Girls basketball improves to 11-0

As conference play is now in full swing, Girls Basketball moved to 3-0 after a huge win over the Wolverines of Frontier Academy.  On Jan. 20, the Reds were back on their home floor and took on Frontier who was 7-3 entering the night.  Blayke Duncan (23) said, “The success for our team this year is the bond and chemistry between us all, and how we play very well with each other and we trust each other to make plays.”

Defense has been a big part of the Red’s success, especially the amount of steals that they are racking up from game to game.  In the game, the Reds collected 19 steals as a team and were led by the junior guard Duncan who had six.  The Reds held the Wolverines to under 10 points every quarter and on top of their big scoring night, the final score ended up at 59 to 24 in favor of the Reds. “Defense, I think, is the most crucial part for our team and that in order to be successful our defense needs to be good.  It has to be good so that we limit our opponent’s chances of scoring a bucket.” Duncan said.

Scoring-wise, the Reds had two girls in double digits, Duncan and Emily Maske (23) both had 10 points.  Duncan, a big part of the team’s success last night also had four assists which led the team.  Duncan said, “We continue to move forward by playing our game at our pace since we know what we are capable of and what we can achieve against good teams in our league.”

The undefeated Lady Reds hope to continue their hot streak when they go into a busy road trip next week with games on Jan. 25, 27, and 29.  Senior on the team, Ahana Leffler (22) said, “I am ready to play these games to make us better and get us more prepared for our games coming up.”

First, for the Reds, they will take the road to Strasburg to take on the 6-5 Indians.  Then, they head to Westminster for a non-conference game against The Academy.  Their last game next week on Saturday is another non-conference game at Severance High School.
