The Red’s season opener proved to be a rocky one as Windsor handed the boys their first loss. After three scoreless quarters, both teams struggled to find enough momentum to reach the end-zone.
The Wizards however, took a late lead with a touchdown and field goal, pushing ahead by seven. Quarterback Jaden Olearnick (15) answered back with a pass to Lincoln Korrell (7) to find the end-zone for six.
Trey Stephens (78) went on to launch the ball just shy of the field goal leaving Windsor to lead by one. With just five minutes left in the game, the Reds scrambled to put points on the board.
After a punt recovery by Justin Hunteman (27), the team pushed to fourth down and were forced a turnover with little time left. A strong Reds defense was able to hold off the fired-up Wizards to get the ball back with under a minute to play.
The boys charged within kicking distance, and although Stephen’s ball was fair, the Reds were called for an illegal kicking formation. The points were deemed no-good and Windsor took the game 7-6.
