The students of Eaton High School gathered in the auditorium during enrichment on Friday, April 27 to observe “A Day Without Hate”.
During the event, put on by the Student Council, the students got to witness a video produced by Eaton’s very own Caleb Whitaker (12) about working against bullying, as well as a performance by the EHS Choir, who sang the song “Harambee.” As a way of showing support, the pupils and staff had been asked to wear white on the day, in honor and remembrance of the shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007. The white was very visible in the Eaton auditorium. The hallways of the school were covered with posters displaying various positive messages and encouraging people to wear white to express solidarity.
Whitaker (12) said ”The finished product came out very well.” He continued by saying, “It’s a day where most people can at least either hold back on their judgements, try to be nicer, or even try to reach out to that one person who needs it most– it’s something this world needs, and a day for it at school can only really help the cause.”
