Taking the task of making a child’s wish come true is something that requires great time and dedication. Eaton High School decided to see what they could do to make a cancer victims life a little less difficult. Genesis’s fundraiser was put together by Cassie Maack(13), leader of “Make a Wish Week”, put together many events as a fundraiser. These events included a movie night from Key Club, pooping for miracles from the FFA, a volleyball tournament, a zombie run, and also selling a bunch of bracelets. The whole school pitched in to help out Genesis and her fight through cancer. With all of the fundraising put together Eaton has raised $1,917.00 and is hoping to raise $2,500 by the time the rest of the t-shirts are sold from the Zombie Run Fundraiser. Genesis, of Southern Denver, is a 17-year-old girl who was diagnosed with leukemia early in life. Genesis’ favorite color is purple (hence the color of the Zombie Run shirts), and she likes sports. The wish Genesis was trying to have granted is to go to college. Cassie Maack said “Although having cancer is a burden only few have to encounter, Eaton High School’s student council thought that this was a great opportunity to help a fellow teenagers life.” Organizations that helped to raise money included Phoenix Training Studios, Turn Key Builders, A1 Organics, New West Bank, and Vines Branch. Many students which attend Eaton High School helped to contribute to the Genesis’s fundraiser and to the Make A Wish Week. Sallie Croissant(13), a member of student council who helped with Make A Wish Week, said she had the most fun with “The zombie run because we got to creepily chase people we didn’t know”. Roughly 40 people ran in the Zombie run and about $2,000 for Genesis came from. Another event which raised money was the volleyball tournament which included students and teachers. Tanner Garretson(12) said he liked “The volleyball because it was a cool way to get people involved”. A way to get attention to fundraising was selling bracelets which Aimee Ledall(13) liked the most. She said she liked “the bracelets because I liked what they said on them and lots of people bought them”.
