Following a busy day in the North Colorado Medical Center’s donator-truck, Jackie Rebard, in charge of the event could happily announce that the blood drive had been a success.
After the blood drive, Rebard said “The student’s spirit has been very good, we really enjoyed coming to Eaton High School. There is a real positive attitude here”. By the end of January 21, a total of 17 pints of blood was donated to help those in need of blood transfusions to counter their illnesses and injuries. Alex Ruff (12) said “I am giving blood because I figured that if I can give 10 minutes of my life to help someone or maybe save a life, it’s worth it”
Brandon Kohler (12) said he is glad the NCMC held the blood drive at the high school “I think it’s a good thing that they are doing this and it really benefits everyone else out there who can’t do it (donate blood) themselves”. Blood is a badly needed component in treating multiple different medical issues and it has been estimated that in the United States alone there is someone who needs a blood transfusion every three seconds. The medical industry is reliant on volunteering donors as there is still no way to manufacture blood with the retail price of one unit (one pint) of blood being at $249, giving the students donations a total value of $4233. Considering one donation can save up to two lives, giving would really be an invaluable gift.
