Wrestlers participate in first meet of the season
Eaton travels to Cheyenne Mountain High School over the weekend to wrestle
Eaton wrestling hit the mat for their first meet of the 2021 season at Cheyenne Mountain High School. Last season, the Reds won the State Championship, leaving them with high expectations for this season. The Reds ranked second behind Pagosa Springs before the tournament on Jan. 30.
Eaton had duals against Cheyenne Mountain, which is a 4A school, and Wray, which is a 2A school, giving wrestlers an opportunity to wrestle two opponents. Alex Castaneda (22) won his match against Wray in the 126-pound weight division.
As the season goes on, Castaneda hopes to, “improve on my diet and cutting weight. My goal is to be more urgent on bottom and score as many points as I can on top.” Castaneda represented Eaton at State last year.
Morgan Tribbett (23) wrestled against in the 195-pound weight division. “You never can be perfect or too good in a situation, so my practice partners and I try to do our best to get into these difficult situations in practice as much as possible,” Tribbett said.
The Reds next meet is home against the Sterling Tigers this Friday, Feb.5.
