Eaton raises awareness to Mental Health
Eaton High students are aware of spirit week, it usually has different topics for each day of the week, and its usually just for fun. This week EHS has a new week. This week isn’t about fun or anything, it’s about mental health. Monday was lime green to represent Depression. Depression is a mood disorder that causes a constant feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Depression is called Major Depressive Disorder or clinical depression/ It affects how you feel, behave and even think. Depression can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems, such as completing day-to-day activities.
Tuesday is to represent anxiety though the color orange. Anxiety can lead to excessive nervousness, fear, apprehension and worry. Anxiety can alter how a person processes emotions. Mild anxiety can be vague and unsettling, whereas sever anxiety can also affect day-to-day life. Medical news today says that anxiety disorders affect over 40 million people in the united states, the population in the united states is 327.2 million. However only 36.9 percent of people with an anxiety disorder receive treatment.
Wednesday is to represent eating disorders through the color purple. Eating habits aren’t just about not eating it much more. Eating disorders can start with an obsession with food, body weight, and body shape. This eating disorders can start with anything, one small want of change can cause a huge disorder. Eating disorders cab cause serious health consequences. Eating disorders can have a variety of symptoms such as, restriction of food, food binging, or even pursuing behaviors like vomiting and even over-exercising.
Thursday is to represent suicide with the color yellow. Suicide often stems from feeling hopeless. People take their own lives when there is an inability to see solutions to cope with their challenges. They think it is the only solution to a temporary situation. All suicides are a tragedy and sometimes a mystery.
Friday is to represent trauma related issues with the color teal. Trauma is the response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms a persons ability to cope. Having a trauma related situation can cause a person to be unable to feel a full range of emotions.
