Girl’s basketball win against Weld Central by 12 points

The Reds gather around for a group hug with all of this year’s seniors.

The Reds came away with a win on their senior night against Weld Central with a final score of 45-33 on Wednesday 15. For seniors Courtney Leafgren, Jayde Contreras, Brynn Millett, Faith Butler, and Kendall Vannest, this was their last regular season game on their home court.

The Reds dominated the first quarter with a strong offense with a score of 13-2. Weld Central was able to score 9 points in the second while the Reds scored 10, leaving the score 23-11 at halftime. Eaton kept momentum moving into the third, but their defense fell apart in the fourth quarter, as Weld Central scored 15 points compared to the Eaton’s 6, leaving the final score 45-33. Top scorers for Eaton were Alexis Lamoreaux (18) and Addie Randel (20) with 8 points, along with Leafgren and Contreras with 6 points.

Some of the best moments of the night came from seniors Faith Butler and Kendall Vannest. Vannest, former player for three years and current manager, played on her home court for the last time, even scoring the first basket of the game with her favorite shot from the corner. Vannest suffered a knee injury which prevented her from playing basketball safely her senior year, but she didn’t let that stop her from playing on senior night. Butler, who is currently injured with a fractured vertebrae, was able to start against Weld Central even though she is in no shape to play. To pay tribute to her, Eaton won the tip and passed the ball back to Butler on the other side of the court, using the over and back call to sub her out. The moment was incredibly emotional, as Butler will not be returning to play in the tournament.

After the game, the juniors took time to pay tribute to the seniors with a basket of gifts and, of course, lots of hugs to go around from players and parents.
