Eaton High School’s been a pretty big deal lately, with alumni Mitch Unrein playing in the Super Bowl. Another EHS alumni, Russell Haythorn, has also achieved success in his career. In fact, the two stories collided on Wed. Jan. 30 when Haythorn returned to his alma mater to report on a pep rally being held for Unrein. Haythorn said of the experience, “I never thought I’d be back at Eaton for a news story. It’s just a very special and unique experience for me because I grew up here. A lot of time the news is crime and corruption and it’s just awesome to do a good news story.” On Unrein, Haythorn said “I don’t know him personally, but I grew up with his older sister Nicole. I’ve met him a couple times. He’s one of the most polite athletes I’ve ever met and I think it’s largely due to his upbringing here in Eaton.” Haythorn also added that Eaton hasn’t changed much since his days here, other than “a lot more banners on this wall behind me. Our school spirit has always been off the charts.”
