The Eaton Reds opened their volleyball season with a win over new Patriot League opponent Fort Lupton on Wednesday, August 29. The Reds took the floor three freshmen starters after graduating four key seniors. Eaton dominated the first game, winning 25-8. The next two games were closer, but Eaton pulled through with 25-23 wins in both.
The biggest play of the night happened in pre game, when Eaton’s Ryleigh Haynes (14) went up for a warm up hit and came down wrong on her knee and possibly tore her ACL, and is out indefinitely. The junior hitter verbally committed to Northern Colorado on a full ride volleyball scholarship in the summer, so losing Haynes will be a huge hole to fill this year. This injury comes after losing Molly Wilson (13) to concussions in a summer tournament, effectively ending her season.
The Reds have some major holes to fill and little time to do so if they want to repeat as state champions this year.
